This past Sunday, members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued an orphaned male manatee from the Banana River near Cape Canaveral. The young manatee was discovered swimming by himself and experiencing buoyancy problems. Upon his arrival at SeaWorld, the 285 pound manatee was given a complete health exam including antibiotic treatment. The manatee will remain at SeaWorld for further care and observation with the eventual goal of releasing him back into his natural environment once he is strong and healthy enough to survive on his own.
